Set your oven to 400°F and get a baking sheet ready with parchment paper.

Beat together butter and sugar till smooth. Stir in the egg, then add milk and vanilla. Slowly mix in flour and baking powder until dough comes together.

Flatten dough on a floured countertop to your desired thickness (1/6-1/4 inch). Use cutters to create shapes and place them on your baking sheet.

Cook for 5-8 minutes, keeping an eye out for browning edges. Let cool on the baking sheet for about 3-4 minutes, then transfer to a rack.

Don’t toss leftover dough. Roll it out again, make more shapes, and bake.
